The DRRC engages in education and advocacy before Congress and the Administration to ensure the federal government continues to support disability, independent living, and rehabilitation research to the greatest extent possible. Our work traditionally focuses on, but is not limited to, the National Institutes of Health, especially the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR); the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR); the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); and the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR). We also advocate for targeted research funding in the annual congressional appropriations process and work to build support for legislative and regulatory changes to address barriers to research in these fields and improve the science of disability, independent living, and rehabilitation research.
